Health Data Scientist

<p>The role of Health Data Scientist works with large healthcare datasets to provide complex data extracts, programming, and analytical modeling capabilities in support of the team’s services to internal (Customer Support) and external clients. We currently have a growing Customer Support and Customer Success team. As our business has grown, the technical depth of our customers’ queries has also expanded, requiring an experienced healthcare data scientist.&nbsp; In this role, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across the company to understand issues and the needs of our customers and clients. &nbsp;You will work with the Customer Support team to triage and resolve customer queries, bugs and other issues. You will determine the best approach to help scale our processes and ensure consistent, accurate, and timely responses across our rapidly growing customer base.&nbsp; You will also be a key advocate for the customer, providing customer service and operations thought leadership as the conduit between user issue reports, the product and technology teams.</p> <p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Work collaboratively within the Customer Support team to draw insight and intelligence from large administrative claims datasets, electronic medical records and various healthcare registry datasets;</li> <li>Identify and develop solutions to key strategic business problems using high-level modeling and statistical analyses techniques;</li> <li>Utilize SQL to perform advanced-level data extraction, transformation and data management; fully document and manage library of source code and algorithms for future use;</li> <li>Develop and test hypotheses in support of our research-grade product offerings, and communicate findings in a clear, precise, and actionable manner to our clients;</li> <li>Respond to operational data requests and create ad-hoc queries to support research projects;</li> <li>Work closely with Inovalon’s Enterprise Data Management, Data Integration, MORE2 Registry®, and iPORT+™ teams to identify, understand, and resolve data issues and improve the efficiency, productivity and scalability of Inovalon Product and production data processes;</li> <li>Troubleshoot production-related issues and coordinate successful resolution;</li> <li>Assist with the evaluation of data analytic vendors and tools;</li> <li>Maintain compliance with Inovalon’s policies, procedures and mission statement;</li> <li>Adhere to all confidentiality and HIPAA requirements as outlined within Inovalon’s Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the undertaking of the position;</li> <li>Fulfill those responsibilities and/or duties that may be reasonably provided by Inovalon for the purpose of achieving operational and financial success of the Company;</li> <li>Uphold responsibilities relative to the separation of duties for applicable processes and procedures within your job function; and</li> <li>We reserve the right to change this job description from time to time as business needs dictate and will provide notice of such.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Job Requirements:</strong></p> <ul> <li>3+ years of professional experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industries working with administrative claims data and big data;</li> <li>Strong SQL programming skills in addition to working knowledge and experience using statistical analysis tools such as SAS, R, SPSS, Stata, and/or MatLab;</li> <li>Demonstrated problem solving, analytical reasoning and decision-making skills;</li> <li>Strong understanding and experience in researching and resolving data issues with a logical, instinctive, and problem-solving mentality working with large, complex and incomplete sources;</li> <li>Business analytical skills (process flows, procedures, spreadsheets, modeling, etc.) and good understanding of design and architecture principles;</li> <li>Exhibit strong project management skills, with an ability to work independently on multiple projects with competing priorities and a strong commitment to meeting goals and deadlines;</li> <li>Understanding of database management tools (e.g., Hadoop, Hive or MapReduce);</li> <li>Excellent analytical skills and ability to understand and interpret results based on advanced statistical techniques;</li> <li>Strong written and verbal communication skills in IT and business environments; ability to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences;</li> <li>Ability to work under minimal supervision in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment;</li> <li>Advanced knowledge of health care, health policy, pharmaceutical, medical device, and related issues;</li> <li>Superior customer service in the form of first-rate work product and project management;</li> <li>Strong ability to manage challenging client situations;</li> <li>Strong ability to troubleshoot and recommend solutions; and</li> <li>Strong ability to translate complex information for a wide range of clients.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Education:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, machine learning, applied mathematics, econometrics, statistics, engineering, physics, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Physical Demands and Work Environment:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Sedentary work (i.e. sitting for long periods of time);</li> <li>Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force;</li> <li>Frequently or constantly to lift, carry push, pull or otherwise move objects and repetitive motions;</li> <li>Subject to inside environmental conditions;
