Christie Teigland, PhD

Vice President, Research Science and Advanced Analytics

Christie leads the design and implementation of studies focused on quality performance measure development and testing, health disparities and equity, predictive analytics, comparative effectiveness, health economics and outcomes research, and treatment pattern analyses.

Christie works with health plans, providers, and life science organizations to provide actionable real world data insights. She serves as co-chair of the National Quality Forum (NQF) Scientific Methods Panel and is a member of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA) Quality Measure Expert Panel. She has served as principal investigator on numerous performance measure development projects, including several awarded by the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA) for All-Cause 30-Day Readmissions and Potentially Avoidable Hospitalizations.

Prior to joining Inovalon, Christie specialized in quality and patient safety research at Leading Age New York where she directed the development of innovative technology solutions to advance the use of electronic data-driven decision-making tools in long term care settings. Christie earned a PhD. in Economics and Econometric Forecasting from the University of New York at Albany and a B.A. in Management Science and Economics from Moorhead State University.

Z Codes Can Provide Important Data on Social Determinants of Health and Improve Care: How Can We Improve Utilization?

Patient social determinants of health (SDOH) are defined as “the conditions in the environments where people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality-of-life outcomes and risks.” Over the past decade, there has been increasing recognition of the important role of SDOH on health and health-related outcomes such as hospital admissions and readmissions, length of stay, emergency room visits, and use of post-acute care services.,, Addressing SDOH has been associated with better access to and engagement in health care, as well as improved health outcomes and lower costs.
