BOWIE, Md. – March. 26, 2013 – Inovalon, Inc., a leading provider of data-driven healthcare solutions, today shared executive insights on practical strategies for risk adjustment in the new Health Insurance Exchange (HIX) Marketplace which were presented at the AHIP 2013 Exchange Conference, held on March 15 in Washington, D.C.

Dan Rizzo, Chief Innovation Officer at Inovalon and a keynote speaker at the conference, presented on the Vision of the Future: Role of Risk Score Accuracy and Quality in the Marketplace. The presentation, part of the America’s Health Insurance Plans Educational Series 2013, provided an overview of how the HIX Marketplace creates a number of significant challenges for participating health plans that necessitates innovative, data-driven solutions in order to ensure financial performance, market share growth, and a positive impact on quality and outcomes.

Mr. Rizzo focused on the HIX Marketplace and practical strategies for health plans to implement to be prepared for 2014. The two key areas included: ensuring risk score accuracy through robust analytics in combination with methods to close risk score accuracy gaps, and HHS encounter data submission, medical record audit support, and risk score verification processes; and ensuring high quality scores through analytics in combination with methods to identify and close quality, safety, and care gaps, and competitive positioning amongst peer health plans for quality performance displayed during enrollment and available consumer tax credit support.

“For health plans to effectively compete in the new Health Insurance Exchange Marketplace, they must understand the needs of a more broad and diverse member population,” said Mr. Rizzo. “Today’s robust technology innovations afford health plans the opportunity and resources required to gain the data-driven insights that are essential to improving the quality of care, outcomes for patients, and the economics for plans operating in the marketplace.”
