Summary

Triple therapy to prevent exacerbations from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is associated with improved health compared to single- and dual-agent therapy in some populations. This study was a retrospective analysis using Inovalon’s MORE2 Registry® to assess the benefits of prompt administration of budesonide/glycopyrrolate/formoterol fumarate (BGF) following a COPD exacerbation. Following a COPD exacerbation, initiating BGF within 30 days was associated with a reduction in subsequent exacerbations and reduced healthcare utilization and costs, including ED visits, urgent care visits, and inpatient hospitalizations.

Why This Matters

These findings emphasize the value of prompt initiation of BGF on patient outcomes and appropriate healthcare utilization and costs, which can potentially have a significant influence on spending and care for COPD.
