WHITE PAPER
Harvard-Inovalon Medicare Study: Utilization and Efficiency Under Medicare Advantage vs. Medicare Fee-for-Service
Executive Summary
Medicare Advantage (MA) now covers more than half of all Medicare beneficiaries and represents a significant share of federal healthcare spending. Yet, there remains limited insight into how efficiently MA delivers care compared to traditional Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS).
In this white paper, Harvard and Inovalon analyze a nationally representative cohort using linked pre- and post-Medicare data. By adjusting for differences in patients’ clinical, demographic, and social risk factors before enrollment, this research highlights the true effect of MA versus FFS on healthcare utilization and expenditures.
Explore the methodology and uncover new insights in the second installment of this three-part research series.
